Chapter Highlights

The Southwestern Ohio Chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association was developed in 1954 as a chapter of the American Association of Hospital Accountants. There were 33 charter members enrolled that first year.

Officers who were instrumental in founding the new local chapter in 1965 were:
President-Corliss L. Morris-Bethesda Hospital
Vice President-Sr. Helen Regina-Good Samaritan-Dayton
Secretary-John K. Porter-Barney Hospital (now Children’s Dayton)
Treasurer-Miss Irene Buchner-Ft. Hamilton Hospital

The original Trustees were:
Mrs. Jane Yates-Dettmer Hospital
Mrs. Edna Balash-Dunham Hospital
Mr. Alfred Kurts-Miami Valley Hospital
Mr. George Buesher-Children’s Hospital-Cincinnati
Sr. Marie Theresa-Good Samaritan-Cincinnati

One note of interest is that this was a free spending group. Regular sessions were held at the meeting room of local hospitals to cut expenses and the initial treasurer’s report showed a positive balance of $83.

We have the pleasure of retaining one of the charter members as a member in the chapter. This active charter member is: Mr. John Huntsbarger.
